Last Updated: Sep 09, 2015 03:08PM EDT

Introduction

This article explains how to setup Static Routes on your Zyxel Router.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. First you will need to setup our DNS numbers on your router. If you have not already done so please read this guide.
  2. Next go to Network then Static Route to open the Static Route screen.
  3. Click add Static Route.
  4. Fill the following to add a Static Route for Google's first DNS address:
    Static Route: Choose enable
    Destination IP address: 8.8.8.8
    IP Sub net mask: 255.255.255.255
    Gateway IP address: 192.168.1.1
  5. Once done with the entries click Apply.
  6. Repeat Steps #3 to #5 for Google's 2nd DNS address:
    Static Route: Choose enable
    Route name: GoogleDNS2
    Destination IP address: 8.8.4.4
    IP Sub net mask: 255.255.255.255
    Gateway IP address: 192.168.1.1
  7. Make sure all changes are saved. Then you may test if the static routes are working by doing a ping test of Google's DNS. To do this on Windows: Press the Windows Key AND the R Key at the same time on your keyboard. Type in cmd and press Enter. Then type:
    ping 8.8.8.8 (then press enter)
If you get a "request timed out" response then it means your static routes are now in place. You may repeat the ping test for 8.8.4.4
  8. Once the Static routes are confirmed working restart all devices you wish to use.
