How to setup Chromecast

Introduction

This article will help explain how to setup Google Chromecast.

Windows 7 and Higher

  1. Install the Chromecast application by navigating to chromecast.com/setup. Here you can choose to setup Chromecast using your mobile device or using Windows.
  2. Launch the Chromecast application to view "Privacy and Terms". Click Accept.
  3. Select your Chromecast application from the list of devices. Click Set Up.
  4. To connect your Chromecast to your wireless network, select Continue.
  5. Confirm that the code on your computer matches the code on your TV. Click That's my code.
  6. Select your home Wi-Fi network and enter your password. Click Continue.
  7. Download the Google Cast extension.

Android (Android 4.1 and higher)

  1. Plug in your Chromecast device. Change the input on your TV until you see the Set Me Up card on your screen. This is done using the "Input", "Source", or "Menu" button. You may have to cycle through a few inputs before finding the correct one (e.g. HDMI1, HDMI2, etc.).
  2. Install the Chromecast application by navigating to chromecast.com/setup on your Chromecast supported Android device.
  3. Launch the Chromcast application to read "Privacy and Terms". Tap Accept.
  4. Touch DEVICES and choose the Chromecast you want to setup. Touch setup.
  5. Make sure the code on your device matches the code on your TV. Touch I See the Code.
  6. Optional: Change the name of your Chromecast application to something distinct by deleting the current name and typing a new name.

    Note: "Guest mode" and "Send Chromecast usage data and crash reports to Google" are enabled by default. If you don't wish to enable them, touch the checkmarks next to their corresponding prompts. Touch Set Name.

  7. Choose the Wi-Fi network you want to connect your Chromecast. Enter your password and touch Set Network.
  8. If your Chromecast needs an update, it will automatically update at this time and will let you know when the update is complete.
  9. After the update is complete, you are ready to cast! Touch Browse Your Cast Apps.

iOS phone or tablet (iOS 7.0 and Higher)

  1. Plug in your Chromecast device. Change the input on your TV until you see the Set Me Up card on your screen. This is done using the "Input", "Source", or "Menu" button. You may have to cycle through a few inputs before finding the correct one (e.g. HDMI1, HDMI2, etc.).
  2. Install the Chromecast application by navigating to chromecast.com/setup on your Chromecast supported iOS device.
  3. Launch the application and read the "Privacy and Terms". Touch Accept.
  4. This step is highly recommended: Turn on Bluetooth to help improve the setup process.
  5. If Bluetooth is ON, touch DEVICES and choose the Chromecast you wish to setup. Touch Setup. Touch Next. Now SKIP TO STEP 9.
  6. If Bluetooth is OFF, touch DEVICES. Touch ADD NEW DEVICE. You will be prompted to turn Bluetooth on. Touch Settings and turn on Bluetooth. Now return to the chromecast application. Choose the device you wish to setup. Touch Setup. Touch Next. SKIP TO STEP 9.
  7. If you do not want to turn on Bluetooth, go to the DEVICES tab and touch Add New Device. Touch OK.
  8. Choose the device you wish to setup. Touch your iPhone's Home button, go to your iOS Settings, select Wi-Fi and connect to the Wi-Fi network that matches your Chromecast device. Look for something like "ChromecastXXXX".

    Navigate back to the Chromecast application. Your device should now be detected. Touch Next.
  9. The code on your phone should match the code on your TV. Touch "I See the Code".
  10. Select your region. Touch Next.
  11. Optional: Change the name of your Chromecast to something distinct by deleting the current name and typing in a new name.

    Note: "Guest mode" is enabled by default. If you do not want guest mode on, tap the checkmark. Touch Set Name.

  12. Choose the Wi-Fi network you want to connect to your Chromecast and enter the password. Touch Set Up.
  13. If your Chromecast needs an update, it will automatically update at this time and will let you know when the update is complete.
  14. After the update is complete, you are ready to cast! Touch Browse your Cast Apps.
